In general the adopted calendar duplicates the current school year in terms of start and end as well as student/staff holidays. The total number of instructional days for 2013-2014 is 176 for students and 184 scheduled workdays for teachers meaning 3 distributed workdays will be needed to fulfill 187 contract days. The first day of instruction will be on August 26, 2013 with the last day of instruction on June 5, 2014. Academic Services will proceed in determining the manner by which the scheduled and unscheduled workdays will be documented for 2013-2014.
Graduation for the 2013-2014 school year will be Saturday June 7, 2014, at the Potter’s House. Bad weather make up days will be April 18 and May 23; however, February 17 which is a student/staff holiday may also be considered should conditions warrant the need for such. Parent conferencing in October and semester exams in December will continue along with continued efforts by Administration to improve the process. Early dismissal for semester exams will only apply to secondary schools meaning elementary will be a full day of instruction returning 2 days of instruction. Finally, as a benefit to the 69% of teachers who do not live within the Irving ISD zip codes, Spring Break on March 10 - 14 aligns with a majority of the area districts.
